After suffering knee ligament damage in October 2023, former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar spent 12 months out of action. Following a long road to recovery, the 32-year-old returned to the field in an AFC Champions League clash with Al Ain.

He graced that competition again when stepping off the bench against Esteghlal. Neymar was introduced early in the second half, but failed to see the game out as he limped from the pitch after suffering discomfort in his right leg.

A full-blooded challenge left Neymar nursing a knock, with the South American posting on social media afterwards as he waits on further medical checks: “I hope it's nothing serious. It's normal for this to happen after a year. The doctors had already warned me. That's why I have to be careful and play more minutes.”

Al-Hilal boss Jesus told reporters when asked how serious Neymar’s injury is and whether it could lead to another lengthy spell on the treatment table: “He returned from an injury that is not easy. He plays in a position that makes him very vulnerable to contact. I believe his injury is muscular, not in the knee. He should be out for at least two weeks.”
