Roma struggling at eighth in Serie AJust one win in their last five league gamesRoma management hands ultimatum to the Special OneWHAT HAPPENED?
The Portuguese manager might be a fan-favourite but the board is growing impatient with the lack of results on the pitch. Although Mourinho guided them to the UEFA Europa Conference League title to end a 14-year trophy drought in his first season and another European final in the next, two sixth-place finishes in a row in Serie A have denied them entry into the UEFA Champions League.
They were hoping to make it among the European elites in 2024-25 but a disastrous first five months in the league sees them languishing in the eighth place in the standings.

Mourinho is believed to be walking on thin ice and Francesco Balzani has reported that the manager has got one month to pull them back in the top-four race. His contract ends in the summer and if results are not favourable he might be denied an extension. The club has contingency plans in place and it is believed that Daniele de Rossi is considered an interim option. They are also monitoring Raffaele Palladino and Vincenzo Montella as potential alternatives.
DID YOU KNOW?
Mourinho was given his marching orders twice within a week during Roma's matches against Atalanta and Lazio in the Serie A and the Coppa Italia, respectively for going overboard with his reactions against match officials. However, the fans have stood by him and even unfurled a tifo in the Olimpico that read: "Eyes intoxicated with red and yellow, a soul filled with romanismo…Jose Mourinho Romanista for life!”
Mourinho was floored by such warmth and he publicly admitted that he wants to continue at Roma.
"I haven't spoken to the owners but I want to continue coaching Roma, the fans are unique," he said. "A separation would be hard for me. And if a separation ever happens, it would not be my decision."

Mourinho's third-season struggles have once again reared its ugly head at Roma and the tactician must find a way out to bring back the Giallorossi on the winning track. His journey will not be easy as they next travel to San Siro to take on AC Milan in the Italian top flight. However, if Mourinho can lead his troops to victory against the Rossoneri it will give him some much-needed breathing space. They are four points behind fourth-placed Fiorentina and a consistent upward swing in form in the next couple of months could be enough to see him make it to his elusive fourth season in the Italian capital.
