Perhaps because he’s Scottish rather than English, perhaps because he’s plying his trade with Bournemouth rather than one of the big clubs, Ryan Fraser’s fantastic form during his debut Premier League campaign has gone a little under the radar.
Indeed, the 22-year-old winger, who was loaned out to Ipswich last term for Bournemouth’s first Premier League season, has been phenomenal, notching up three goals and one assist in ten appearances (only five being starts) and playing instrumental roles in the Cherries’ impressive home scalps against title-chasers Liverpool and Arsenal.
Fraser put one away, set up another and won a penalty as Bournemouth recorded a shock 4-3 comeback over the Reds at the start of December and although his side found themselves on a receiving end of a turnaround against Arsenal last night, squandering a 3-0 lead to settle for just a point, the former Aberdeen man was the star of the show once again.
As our infographic shows, it was an impressive all-round attacking performance from Fraser, completing two dribbles, two crosses and one key pass. But perhaps more importantly, he won the penalty for Bournemouth’s second goal, one of three fouls he drew on the night, and scored his side’s third. Most tellingly, when he came off for Adam Smith in the 68th minute, the Cherries were cruising to a 3-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium.
He may not fit the usual template of prodigious starlet we tend to go mad about in the Premier League – you certainly can’t imagine Manchester City coughing up £50million for him – but the Bournemouth wide man is certainly one to watch out for over the next few months.
