Jack Clarke’s campaign has been a strange one.
The teenager signed for Tottenham in a £10m deal last summer but is still yet to make a single league start this season after re-joining Leeds on loan.
On top of that, he’s made just one substitute appearance against Luton in the Championship and been restricted to two Carabao Cup outings.
A total of 134 minutes has been his reward for a poor attitude, refusing to shake the hand of a substitute against Bristol City U23s earlier this campaign.
But with the January transfer window right around the corner, it can’t be much of a coincidence that his attitude has improved significantly.
Clarke has found himself a regular substitute in the league recently but he saved one of his best performances of the season for Carlos Corberan’s U23 side last Monday evening.
The 19-year-old was rampant, causing numerous problems for the defence throughout the second half. He scored in the first 45 minutes before maintaining his excellent performance levels throughout.
He earned a match rating of 9 for his display, as well as the following review from journalist Beren Cross:
“Caused havoc with every attack in the second half as the hosts committed men forward. Maybe one eye on the January window and impressing watching scouts.”
Leeds went onto beat Bolton 5-1 and Clarke was undoubtedly one of their most important players during the 90 minutes.
That being said, with numerous teams reportedly in the market for his services in January, he is well and truly putting himself in the shop window.
Due to a lack of minutes this term, there is the possibility of Spurs recalling him in January.
Fulham are interested in taking him on a short-term loan but the interest doesn’t stop there. According to Football Insider, Derby and Middlesbrough are also in the race.
However, judged on his recent form, he’s showing attributes that could be vital for Leeds in the remaining months of the season.
For the best of his career, it might be best if he moves on, but he is finally beginning to show the promise we saw in 2018/19.
