Amid criticism from certain quarters, the Dutch defender scored an outrageous goal in a Liverpool training session. Van Dijk was standing behind the goalpost as he tried to curl the ball into the net. The centre-back failed in his initial attempt but managed to score a brilliant goal with his second attempt. In between, the veteran defender was heard saying, "I like a challenge!".

After the Community Shield loss at Wembley, Van Dijk addressed their defensive shortcomings, while admitting they need to work hard as a team to emulate a performance like last season, where the Reds conceded just 41 goals in 38 Premier League matches.
