Scholes put his faith on Kopek Des Bordes to win the opening race of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and will have been thrilled to see his horse come home first. The Manchester United legend showed off his betting slip on social media with the message "here he go then!" revealing he had doubled his money after backing it at evens with a hefty £2,500 wager.

Scholes may be tempted to have another flutter with the Cheltenham Festival on all week. The highlight of the four-day meet in Gloucestershire is Friday's Gold Cup which is widely known as the most prestigious race of the British and Irish jump racing season.

Scholes's former manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to be at Cheltenham this week. The legendary Scot has six horses running at the festival and was a double winner last year with Protektorat in the Ryanair Chase and Monmiral in the Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle.

Scholes and Sir Alex may be focused on the racing this week but they will both surely switch attention to football on Thursday when Manchester United aim to see off Real Sociedad at Old Trafford and book a quarter-final spot in the Europa League.
