As reported in an exclusive by The Express, Manchester United face a battle to hold on to their striking sensation Zlatan Ibrahimovic with MLS side LA Galaxy willing to offer him mega-money to bring him to the United States.
What’s the story?
Ibrahimovic has been in lethal form for United this year, despite his advancing years, and that’s making him a much coveted star worldwide.
The Express reckon LA Galaxy are willing to pay him up to £15m per year to play in Major League Soccer, around £4m more than he is currently earning at Old Trafford.
That could be enough to lure him away and turn his back on United’s offer of a year extension to his current one-year deal, say the paper.
Ibrahimovic is represented by super agent Mino Raiola, who is trying to negotiate a two year deal at United, something that could becoming a stumbling block on the Swedish legend extending his stay in Manchester according to the report.
How important is he?
Ibrahimovic has arguably been United’s most important player this season, scoring an incredible 26 goals in all competitions, despite being 35 years old.
He looks as good as he ever did as a younger, fitter player and if United make the top four, as is their ambition, then he would be absolutely key to any assault on the UEFA Champions League next season.
Replacing a striker of his quality would cost vast sums of money and the Red Devils should at least consider going against their role of offering short deals to players over 30 and sign up the Swede for another two years.
