Inter have informed former star Christian Chivu that he will replace Simone Inzaghi as head coach after they missed out on Cesc Fabregas.

According to a report by Gianluca Dimarzio, Inter have made a surprise move for former player and current Parma manager Cristian Chivu as their new coach. The Nerazzurri wanted to sign Cesc Fabregas, but Como have rejected that move. Parma have given Chivu and his entourage permission to negotiate, as they will now look forward to hiring a new coach.

After the 5-0 humiliation against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, Inzaghi informed the club of his decision to leave for Al-Hilal. Apart from Fabregas, Inter were also considering Genoa boss Patrick Vieira as Inzaghi’s successor, however, the latest developments suggest Parma boss Chivu is all set to take charge.

In the 2009-10 season, Chivu won the treble with Inter as a player under the leadership of manager Jose Mourinho. He spent seven years with the club overall, retiring at the end of that spell with three Serie A titles to his name.
