Newcastle and Dortmund want Doue Rennes star impressing this season FFP could be an issue for the Magpies GettyWHAT HAPPENED?
According to French publication L'Equipe, both the Magpies and BVB, who beat Eddie Howe's men twice in this season's Champions League group stage, plan to 'take action' and try and sign the 18-year-old before the end of the January transfer window. The report adds both clubs are gathering information on the midfielder, who could be lured away from the Ligue 1 outfit this month.

Despite Newcastle having, arguably, the wealthiest owners in the world, the Magpies still need to comply with financial fair play rules, with club CEO Darren Eales admitting the club could be forced to sell some of their top stars to comply with these regulations. The Black and Whites have spent more than £400 million since the takeover was completed in October 2021 and after posting a loss of £73.4 m for the year ending June 2023, they may need to tread carefully to comply with FFP. Therefore, Newcastle may struggle to sign Rennes' rising star.
DID YOU KNOW?
Doue is predominantly an attacking midfielder but he can play in a deeper role, or even as a winger or forward. He is known for his athleticism, ball-carrying ability, and creativity. In November, the teenager, who has played 41 times for the French team, signed a new deal with Rennes until 2025.
WHAT NEXT?
The January transfer window shuts in less than two weeks so there is not a great deal of time for Newcastle, Dortmund, or any other potential suitor to try and sign the France under-21 international. In the meantime, Rennes will host Marseille on Sunday in round 32 of the French Cup.
